Sailing Has Begun.

A month ago it was hard to believe that the club would be able to operate whilst the building of the new water sports centre was taking place. Thanks to the great work of members the foreshore has been transformed to enable the safe launching of boats.

Last Saturday despite the weather the junior training started, boats took to the water under the expert coaching of Barney – refresher training on boat handling.

This weekend the sun shone; winds light but the views up the lake with the snow topped fells   provided everlasting memories.

Saturday - The junior’s went out after lunch, a great afternoon of sailing, drifting and reading (!) was had by all – thanks Julie.

Sunday – Grass Holme Race, the race officer- Duncan, very wisely delayed the start of the race.  At 12:00 the wind kicked in from the North East. Boats were successfully launched and headed up the lake. There were 10 boats on the start line; committee boat to one, the hooter went to start the race and the start of SWSC 2017 sailing season. Mark in his Blaze led with Peter and Lynn following and the rest of the fleet picking up different pockets of wind. Leaving Grass Holme to port all boats rounded the island, no worries of grounding this year with the water level being still high. Martin in his Laser and Bob in his Solo, both where in a good positions to take the race when the fleet headed back down the Lake. The winds were shifty and the FF boats had their spinnakers, full, flogging and down – Jack and Ed sailed close to the west shore, which paid off and they were the first FF to cross the line.

Mark won the race and yours truly was well and truly DFL.
