SWSC: A Family oriented Saining Club

SWSC: A Family oriented Sailing Club

South Windermere Sailing Club is a very friendly, family oriented club that focuses on weekend handicap racing. The sailing program which runs from April to September is based on junior sailing and training on Saturday mornings, relaxed family racing on Saturday afternoons, with more competitive senior racing on a Sunday. The club also organises a number of long distance races, a picnic cruise, a family sailing and regatta week in August. For the more hardy sailors there is an 8 week Frost Bite Series which starts in October. The club’s adopted classes of boats are Laser, Flying Fifteen, K1 and Wayfarer. We recommend that members should have gained at least RYA level 2 or be confident to sail around a triangular course and return to the jetty successfully. The club does not have organised RYA training sessions but members are always willing to coach and offer advice. Lake Windermere is a great piece of water to sail on, a constant wind direction is rare but this is a small price to pay for the fantastic backdrop of the fells.

In addition to sailing the club organises a number of social events throughout the year and the winter walking program helps members maintain their fitness levels out of season.
